Are we in too much of a hurry to forget what happened on September 11, 2001?
Here’s an interesting cryptome.org article on the subject.
One person said the Germans blew up the crematoria at Auschwitz to erase the horror. But the ruins are now being promoted as an essential record of what should never be erased.
Ruins are what’s missing at WTC, and visitors continue to lament their lack, and express shock that there’s nothing to see there except the usual banalities of development, kitschly decorated and celebrated.
Here’s a boingboing post about an interesting salad bar-related phenomenon in China:
When Reason 3.0 was first announced, I was decidedly underwhelmed.
The developers have made no secret of the fact that Reason will always be a closed system. There is no plugin architecture, and there is no way to use external audio directly.. Really, the only way to add new sounds is to use samples recorded elsewhere.
This closedness is a hotly debated aspect of Reason. I understand the developers’ decision, and I have enough tools at my disposal to not be limited by this, but some people really get worked up about it.
The bewildering thing about the new release is that there are not any new synthesizers or other sound-generating modules. For a major release of a closed system, such an addition seems fundamental.
So that’s why I was underwhelmed.
Yesterday, I spent some time looking at the sales propaganda, and really started thinking about the new features. I’m still not too excited about the new sample browser or the mastering plugins, but this Combinator really turns me on.
Rather than give us new sound generators, they have created a totally new mechanism for combining the tools we already have. I’m beginning to see how this is the logical next step of Reason’s evolution, and I am excited to try it out.
This is the kind of headline that keeps me going:
